The former mill-town of Carlisle lies in the beautiful county of Cumbria in North West England at the western end of Hadrian's Wall, in close proximity to the border with Scotland.
As an important military outpost since the Roman occupation of Britain, the town is home to a number of pieces of historic architecture, not least of which being the eleventh century Carlisle Castle which is home to the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment and its own commemorative museum.
The town is also home to the University of Cumbria as well as being an important centre for local trade, owing to its multiple rail links to the surrounding region.
Situated amid the most stunning scenery at the meeting point of three rivers, the town is a hugely popular tourist spot, with its transport links to Cumbria's most famous attraction - The Lake District.
